Fabrication Team: Jason Minor, Gavin Gaudette, Borja Muguiro, Benjamin Albrecht and Michelle Young.
Responsible for model construction. 

Measurements: 



Method of Fabrication: 
The base comprises laminated layers of laser cut 1.4mm plywood. Several thicknesses of laser cut plywood were used to construct the house and these pieces were finished with liming wax. The roof was fabricated using a CNC and required double-sided milling.

Istanbul Border Exchange
Third Year Final Building Project
Undergraduate Work // May 2009

The building is sited outside the centre of the city on the Northern Coast of the Sea of Marmara. 

The premise of this project derived from a series of conditions that were used to read and map Istanbul; it was observed that the city can be viewed as a set of transitions and a series of temporalities. Sitting on the crossroads of cultures, Istanbul literally and figuratively straddles two worlds. As the city is an international port for merchant  ships it is strategically placed to serve migrants in transit. Thus, the basis of the building program derives from the concept of ‘in-between’ and the nature of temporary occupation. The different programs of the building operate on a daily time cycle exploring the idea of temporary architecture.
